The most widely recognised form of knitting needle is the knobbed needle or the single point needle. These are straight needles tapered to a point at one end and a knob at the other end to prevent stitches from slipping off. Such needles are always used in pairs. The aluminium finish tends to produce faster knitting. The larger size needles from 5.5mm are Plastic tapered needles to a point at one end and a knob at the other to prevent stitches slipping off.
